IMPORTANT NOTE: Your USB drive must be Fat32/NTFS formatted, otherwise Syslinux will fail and your drive will NOT Boot.

Bootable USB Flash Drive Creation Requirements:

  • Universal-USB-Installer-
  • Windows Vista/7/8/10 or WINE to create the USB (Win 98/XP/2K WILL NOT Work!)
  • *Fat32 or NTFS Formatted Flash Drive. MBR partition only GPT will not work!
  • PC with a BIOS that can boot from USB
  • Your Favorite Linux ISO

Feel free to inform me of unlisted Live Linux distributions or version revisions, and I will do my best to update Universal USB Installer (UUI) to support them.

UUI – Universal USB Installer Troubleshooting, Issues, Bugs:

The Windows to Go option requires the USB drive be NTFS formatted and have 20GB free space to hold the virtual disk. Many flash drives you might find at local department stores won't be fast enough. You'll need a Very Fast Flash Drive. When Windows boots from the USB for the first time, it'll go through the setup process and then reboot. You'll need to boot using your Windows to Go flash drive a second time to finalize the setup process and finally boot into your full Portable Windows.

UUI Expects the Volume Label of your USB drive to be UUI in order for OpenSUSE, CentOS and several other distributions to boot. UUI attempts to automatically create this Volume Label, however it can sometimes fail. Please ensure that the Volume Label of your USB remains UUI if you expect distributions to boot!

If you're using Universal-USB-Installer- and you still receive Insane primary (MBR) partition notices,

Insane primary (MBR) partition. Can’t find myself on the drive I booted from

Your USB drive may be improperly formatted, contains more than one partition or MBR, or your BIOS is not properly detecting the USB drive and its firmware needs to be updated. You can try these methods to Format and Restore your USB Drive

An Error (1) occurred while executing syslinux.

If you encounter a message stating

An error (1) occurred while executing syslinux. Your USB drive won't be bootable.

The most likely cause is that your USB drive is formatted as exFAT or some other unsupported format. You'll need to reformat as fat32 (currently preferred) or NTFS.

My PC wont Boot from my Flash Drive, but supports USB boot!

Many Flash Drives ship USB-FDD formatted and some systems will not detect or even boot USB-FDD. I have found that most systems can however boot USB-ZIP, and or USB-HDD. If you are having a hard time getting your BIOS to detect your flash drive, you can try to format it as USB-HDD or USB-ZIP using BOOTICE (GET IT HERE), and then proceed to use Universal USB Installer to put your chosen Distro on USB.

  • If you're running a Windows Vista or 7 Installer from your USB, after the first reboot, remove the flash drive and let the pc complete from the hard disk.
  • When browsing for an ISO, UUI will only display ISO Files that match exactly what the tool is asking for. For example, if you chose to install Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop i386, you should not expect the tool to display your ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso as you have not chosen to install the netbook variant.

Auto Detection: If you run Universal USB Installer from the same directory containing an installable ISO, the script should Auto Detect the ISO and bypass step 2.

* Although you can use an NTFS formatted USB, Ubuntu based "persistence" features will only work with a Fat16 or Fat32 formatted drive. Additionally some Linux Distributions will not boot from an NTFS formatted USB.

This tool does not support installing and booting from multiple Linux Distributions. Only One Distribution can be installed per USB drive. However, the YUMI Multiboot USB Creator can be used to create a Multi System USB Device.

To try an unlisted ISO, I.E. "Ubuntu 9.10", choose one of the the last two options in Step 1, "Try Unlisted Linux ISO". Please inform me of unlisted "Linux ISOs" you get to work via these options, and I'll add them.

NOTE: OpenSUSE DVD ISOs that exceed 4GB will not work due to the Fat32 limitation.

Ubuntu Server "Failed to copy file from CD-ROM" Error (should be resolved)

The Universal USB Installer does run well in WINE under Linux. However the Fat32 format option will not work, and syslinux must be installed manually onto the USB from within Linux. You might also wish to try another Linux Bootable USB Creator [ODIN] Galaxy Ace S5830

Well guys, the DVD drives manufacturers reporting each month a declining in their production as most of the software and games can be downloaded from the internet, or stored in cloud.
A few days ago I’ve assembled a PC and I didn’t even bothered to add a DVD drive, wasn’t even necessary at all. But how do I install Windows 8.1 without DVD drive

I’ve used the Windows 8 installer USB drive. I will explain how to make the entire process painless.Tools needed for this operation:– USB flash drive (at least 4 Gb)– A computer running Windows

* Optional – a cup of coffee

Format the usb drive

1. Connect the USB drive to the computer running windows.2. Open “Computer” folder, right click on your usb drive letter and select “Format”

3. Make sure the “FAT 32″ is selected. You can leave everything else on default state.

4. Press start. Once the format will be completed, you can move to the next step and create the Windows 8 installer.

Create the Windows 8.1 Installer USB Drive

1. Go to Microsoft’s Windows 8 Upgrade Page.
2. Click the “Install Windows 8.1″ button. This will start downloading the “WindowsSetupBox.exe”.

3. Run “WindowsSetupBox.exe” when the download finishes. If it asks for a License number, input your original key (assuming that you have one already). It will start downloading Windows 8 files. This entire process will take just a few minutes to finish depending on your broadband connection.

4. Now, the installer will ask how would you like to install Windows 8.1. Select “Install by creating media.”

5. When asks to choose which media to use, simply select “USB flash drive.”

6. Now you should select your newly formatted removable drive from the list. Accept to erase the content if it asks.

Install Windows 8.1

It’s time to move to the finale phase and install Windows 8.1 on your machine.

1. Plug the USB drive into the computer you want to install Windows 8.1 on.

2. You have to boot from the USB drive and not from your computer hard drive/SSD or any other location. To do that modify the setting from the BIOS machine (with F1, F1, Delete, Esc or another key that is highlighted on the screen when it boots up), or press F12 to bring up the boot menu selection.

3. If you have opted to go in BIOS look for any entry that says “Boot” or “Boot Order” and make sure that USB has the highest priority on the system. If you didn’t, skip this step.

4. Your computer should pick up the installation files on the USB drive automatically and installation should commence.

Well, if you didn’t skipped the optional requirements from beginning, now it’s time to enjoy the…coffee while your computer install the Windows 8 Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manager 4 0 8

Installing Windows from a bootable USB flash drive is one the safest and fastest installation methods available to install Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and as well as Windows 8/8.1. We already have a guide to install Windows 8 from USB flash drive, but the guide requires the basic knowledge of Command Prompt.

As we already have a detailed guide to create a bootable USB to install Windows 8 from USB flash drive using Command Prompt method, we are going to use a third-party tool named WinToFlash (free) in this guide. This guide is for novice Windows users who are not familiar with Command Prompt.

If you don’t want to use third-party tool to create a bootable USB, just follow our step-by-step and 100% working how to install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 from USB flash drive guide to create a bootable drive using Command Prompt.

Required items:

# Windows 8 DVD or ISO

# A 4 GB USB flash drive

# WinToFlash (download it here)

Step 1: Start the procedure by connecting your USB flash drive to your Vista or Windows 7 machine and backup all data from the flash drive as the drive will be formatted in step 6.

Step 2: Next step is to download and run WinToFlash program. It’s a portable utility, which means that it doesn’t require an installation. The program is packed in a zip file. So extract the downloaded zip file to a folder to get WinToFlash.exe and other files.

Step 3: Run WinToFlash.exe file to start the actual procedure. On the first run, you will see First start wizard box. Click Next button, accept the program license agreement and then click Next button. Please note that a paid version of WinToFlash is also available with additional features. But the free version is more than enough to create Windows 8 bootable flash drive.

Step 4: In the main screen, click the check button next to Windows Setup transfer wizard to start WinToFlash wizard. Click Next button to continue.

Step 5: In this step, you need to select Windows 8/8.1 installation files folder and USB drive which you want to make as bootable. Click on Select button next to Windows file path and browse to the folder containing Windows 8 installation files.

Note: If you have Windows 8/8.1 ISO file, please use 7-Zip (free) software to extract the installation files to a folder. Then browse to the new folder to select it as Windows files path.

Then click the Select button next to USB drive box to select the USB flash drive.

Step 6: Once you have selected Windows 8 installation files path and USB drive letter, click Next button to begin transferring installation files on to USB. Clicking the Next button will launch Windows License Agreement box. Select I accepted the terms of the license agreement and click Continue button.

You will see the Format Warning message. As we have mentioned in step 1, the software will erase all contents on your USB flash drive. So, move all data from USB drive to a safe location before starting the procedure.

Click Ok button to begin transferring Windows 8.1 installation files onto USB drive. You can relax now as you won’t have to do anything for the next 25-30 minutes. Once the moving process is done, you will see Finished message. Click Next button to complete the procedure.

You have just created a bootable Windows 8/8.1 USB flash drive. Reboot your machine, enable USB boot in BIOS, and start installing Windows 8 on your machine Между Небом и Землей (2012)

Good luck!

4 Steps To Make Bootable USB Pendrive for Windows 8 7 XP

RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and improve PC performance

So you have decided to remove Windows 8 from your PC but you are not sure how to uninstall Windows 8. If you are running Windows 8 in dual boot with Windows 7, you will be able to safely remove Windows 8 from your computer.

NOTE: All data on Windows 8 partition will be erased while removing Windows 8. Backup your data on Windows 8 partition before starting the procedure.

Scenario 1: You installed Windows 8 in dual boot with Windows 7 or Vista on a separate partition

If you have installed Windows 8 in dual boot Windows 7 on a separate partition by following our dual boot Windows 8 with Windows 7 guide, uninstalling Windows 8 is pretty easy. Just follow the simple procedure given below to completely remove Windows 8 from your PC.

Step 1: Switch on the PC and boot into Windows 7 desktop. Download a small free tool named EasyBCD from here and install the application. We are using this tool to remove the Windows 8 entry from Windows Boot Manager. Though we can always use System Configuration Utility to remove this boot entry, we are using the EasyBCD to be on the safe side.

Step 2: Run EasyBCD application.  If you are prompted with User Account Control (UAC) dialog, click Yes.

Step 3: In the EasyBCD application window, on the left pane, click on the Edit Boot Menu button to see all existing boot menu entries. Here, you can see Windows 8 or Windows Developer Preview entry.

Step 4: Select the Windows 8 or Windows Developer Preview entry, click Delete button. Click Yes for the confirmation prompt. EasyBCD will immediately remove the Windows 8 entry from the boot menu. Click Save Settings and exit the application.

Step 5: As you have installed Windows 8 on a separate partition, you may want to format the partition to reclaim the disk space. To format the drive, open Computer (My Computer), right-click on the Windows 8 drive and click Format.

Select the File System as NTFS and click Start button to format your Windows 8 drive. Once completed, you will see Format Complete message.

Step 6: You have just removed Windows 8 from your PC. Reboot the PC to see Windows 7 boot entry.

Scenario 2: You installed Windows 8 after formatting (or deleting) the Windows 7 installation

As you have installed Windows 8 after formatting the Windows 7 partition, you have to use Windows 7/Vista/XP installation media to remove or uninstall Windows 8. Boot using XP/Vista/Windows 7 installation media, format the Windows 8 partition, and then install your copy of Windows. Follow our how to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 from USB flash drive guide to quickly install Windows 7 on your computer.

Scenario 3: You installed Windows 8 on a computer that didn’t have an operating system

In this case, you have to use Windows 7 or earlier versions of Windows installation media to format the Windows 8 partition and then install other versions of Windows.

Scenario 4: You upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8

The Developer Preview build of Windows 8 neither supports upgrade from Windows 7 nor allows downgrade. So, if you are running Windows 8 Developer Preview, you can’t downgrade to Windows 7. Will update this guide once Microsoft adds an option to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manager 4 0 8
